How to keep your garden secure 24/7

Regardless of whether you’ve just bought a new home or have owned your home for a while, home security is an important factor in where you live.

You want to stay secure and ensure security for your family, especially without reducing the style of your house. Here are a few ways to use landscaping to improve your home's security. Below, we discuss some of the ways to keep your garden secure.

Lighting

When improving the security of your home, lighting is an important factor to catch and deter trespassers. When setting up lighting around your home, installing lights near entry points makes it impossible to remain hidden, which catches anyone trying to get onto your property.

As well, you can choose lighting that is automatic and has motion detection, which lights up when there is movement detected. This is extremely useful, as it saves power and deters burglars. Placing lighting on fences or near doors and windows will provide the maximum coverage of your home.

Lighting is also great for you. It allows for great visibility at night when you want to be out in your garden. Lighting can come in many forms and is great for security and safety. Having spotlights around your garden will allow it to remain well-lit at all times.

Fencing

A tall, sturdy fence is an extra step to make it harder for burglars to attempt to get inside your home without detection. Fences make it difficult, if not impossible, for burglars to evaluate entry points.

Adding fencing around your home will ensure that you gain privacy, as no one will be able to see into your home. As well as privacy, you will be able to ensure that your home is secure from intruders, and as there are many designs and patterns of fencing, you can make sure you have your own unique style.

High side and rear boundaries with trellis and spiky defensive planting; keep hedges, walls, and fences around your back garden high (over 1.8 metres). Add a lightweight trellis to gates and fences, and plant some prickly plants to make it harder for burglars to climb over.

Hedging

For the parts of your garden that are easily accessible and can be viewed, it is crucial that your hedging be trimmed at a height to which your neighbours and people can see your home.

Because the hedge is trimmed, why would you want people looking at your home? But anyone who is passing or your neighbours can easily report anyone attempting to get into your home or looking suspicious. By keeping your hedges neat, tidy, and short, your windows and doors become less appealing targets.

Flooring

When choosing the flooring for the walkways and entrances of your home, as well as other places you store items, placing stones or pebbles will help you hear if anyone is walking in your driveway or on your property.

Unfortunately, even though they have a lot of styles and patterned properties, grass and paved walkways dramatically reduce the sound of incoming footsteps. This means combining these with pebbles and other materials that make noise will enable you to hear anyone walking and sneaking around your property.

As well, if you have flooring and walkways that make more movement and noise if you have technological cameras, this will enable the camera to detect more walking and actions around your home.

Accessories

To finish off improving the security of our home, adding extra security accessories to your home will ensure and maximise the chances of deterring anyone attempting to gain access to your property or home.

When adding fencing to your garden and around your home, adding deterrent spikes will be effective. As the spikes are a triple row of pointed cones with excellent UV weathering resistance, this ensures they are long-lasting. The points on the deterrent spikes are staggered for maximum effect but with minimum harm.

Sheds

Secure your shed; always keep your shed locked and secured, and make sure it is anchored down to prevent it from being lifted in order to gain access. Often, sheds contain valuables such as power tools and bicycles.

Never leave tools lying around; never leave tools lying around, as they can be used as a way of breaking into your home.

As listed above, the longevity of the wooden posts, We’ve listed longevity as an advantage of wooden fence posts, but there will still be some maintenance involved with timber, especially if you use poorly treated wood. If you don’t have the time or energy for the extra maintenance of the fence posts, your fence posts could show signs of splitting or rotting within a few years.
