THREE THINGS TO CONSIDER WHEN PLANNING A HOME EXTENSION

If you’re considering a kitchen or home extension, there are a few things to take into consideration before you get started. Here are the three top things to consider when planning an extension:

How much space do you really need?

If you’re thinking about an extension, the first thing you should consider is the space you have available. If your kitchen is small, it may be difficult to add any more space without making your garden feel cramped. However, if you do have enough room and want to make your kitchen bigger, then a kitchen extension could be the answer!

If there is more than one person living in your house, then it’s important to think about their needs when planning an extension, especially if they spend most of their time cooking in the kitchen! If you have a family, consider family space—an area to dine or socialise with your family.

How much money do you have to spend?

When it comes to considering a kitchen extension, in most cases, the cost is something that is usually the biggest consideration. As well as having to pay for architectural drawings, planning permission, and building materials, there’s also the cost of hiring builders and plumbers. If your budget doesn’t stretch far enough for this kind of project, then it may not be right for you right now, but don’t give up hope just yet! There are some other ways that you can increase your kitchen size while keeping costs down (more on this later).

Depending on your type of property, there are many different types of kitchen extensions that could be suitable for your home, all ranging in price.

What kind of style do you desire?

The first thing to consider is whether the extension will be open-plan or separate from the rest of your home. An open-plan extension can be designed so that it feels like part of the existing house and adds more space without making it feel like another building has been added on. A separate extension gives you more freedom when designing the layout but may not blend in with the rest of your home as well as an open-plan one might. Open-plan styles are great for socialising and also great for family homes. Having a multifunctional space where you could all potentially be doing something different but still all in the same room is something many of our clients have found benefits them in their open-plan kitchen extension.

Before you begin planning an extension, it’s important to take measurements of the area where you’ll be building new rooms or a kitchen. It’s also important to have an idea of what kind of layout would work best for your family—do you prefer open spaces or more enclosed areas? Once these considerations are taken care of, you’ll have a better idea of how much room there is for additions like outside seating or deck areas and whether those additions will require any structural changes (such as adding posts).
